Post types

Posts are a primary type of content on WordPress, and Whiteboard has provided several custom post types for your site. We use custom post types as a template for recurring or high-frequency content. For example, you may have only one About page, but you’ll have many ministries.

Post types have several properties in common:

  • Preview text: A short description of the post’s information—usually displayed as a small piece of text beneath the post’s title.
  • Reading time: The estimated reading time.
  • Featured image: An image that appears in a full screen size at the top of a post.

These properties, and the post’s title, are important because they will display elsewhere on your site. Because posts can be referenced from elsewhere, or highlighted in certain blocks, it’s important to completely fill out your post with as much information as possible.

After these basic details, posts feature a Blocks tab, which can be filled with as many or as few blocks as you choose. For more information, see the Blocks section

Events

Events are just that! Use this post type to provide details about upcoming events. When drafting posts of this type, be sure to put both the date and the name of the event in the post title.

This post type can appear within the Tabbed Event Archive block.

Ministries

Ministries are the most detailed of your available post types. They are used to describe the different services of your chapter. Each ministry has an array of details to fill out, primarily around the points of contact and leadership, as well as links to join or give. Ministry posts can also feature media assets.

The Preview Image appears at top of the ministry’s page, as well as wherever it’s referenced, such as the Ministries block, while the Featured Image displays to the left of the ministry’s description text.

Posts

Posts are the blog entries of your site. In contrast to updates, which serve as news, and stories, which serve as narratives about particular ideas or people, posts are generally used for think pieces or

Stories

Stories are simple to add with just a few main sections - the Post details with the Preview text and reading time. The featured Image can be added in the left hand side. The text is under the blocks tab. Within the rich text, you can add images, block quotes, and as much text as you want.

Posts of this type can appear within the Full Width Featured block and the Tabbed Post Archive, so be sure their featured image is high resolution.

Updates

Updates serve as quick snippets of news about your chapter. If you’ll be closed on certain days, or if you have news about an upcoming event, the updates post type provides a centralized place for that information.
